What is a designers role in today's society? 

A designer’s role is today’s society is to direct people towards buying a certain brand of food for example. Even then it can be expanded on and said that designers have the role of designing and creating that brand. The video's to the left showcases the relationship between a client and the designer and how the two think differently but as a designer you have the job of pushing the client in the right direction.

Designers often struggle to work in one aspect of design. It is very rare that you get a designer that works within just one field of the sector. Its normally a mix of things that go hand in hand with each other such as branding, logo design and web design.

Design is one of the things that people come into contact on a day to day basis without even being aware of it. It is in pretty much everything we touch. Whether it is using your laptop, opening a parcel or mail or even making something to eat. Sometime during the production process, graphic design would have been used in some form, it might be packaging or developing the UI for the OS on your laptop. Design is limitless.

​From a personal perspective, I think that design should be used for a matter of good, such as raising awareness of something or getting a point across. ​Being a designer is often feels like you’re playing god, as if you design something it can sometimes work in harmony with other things such as raising awareness but then it is tricky as sometimes things such as depression are considered "sensitive" subjects. There is a fine line between what is right and wrong. That is why research is often a big influence on the outcome.

Design can also be used for the wrong reasons such as promoting underage drinking, smoking or even unhealthy eating. Like I mentioned before there is such as small line between what is considered right or wrong for a designer but that is down to personal preference.

Summary.

Overall in society a designer has to play god, in the end you need to make clients happy but you need to also do what is right for those who view the work. In consideration of yourself as it will be you who gets blamed for the problems or backfires.
