DATE

27th February 2017

DEADLINE.

20th March 2017

Brief.

To design a 16 page brochure of my choice.

The brochure must include;

  • Important information about the event

  • Appropriate imagery

  • An article discussing a VIP at the festival.

  • A redesigned map of the site and timetable of the event.

Project Aims.

  • Throughout this project, I must aim to;

  • Demonstrate professional working methods that explore the creative process and its cycle.

  • Analyse contemporary editorial designs making links to personal creative development through critically evaluating my designs.

  • Create visual outcomes that embrace experimentation and creative exploration

  • Present and evaluate my final outcome to peers, and reflect on how effectively I have delivered the intended message to the audience using visuals.

Introduction.

Over reading week, I planned to start redeveloping the logo for the event and start designing the double page spreads for the brochure. On return to class on the week starting 27th February, I presented the current progress to my peers and tutor to get feedback on ways to improve or just gain thoughts on the outcomes at the present moment in time.

The Logo.

I started by explaining the thought process behind breaking down the old OFFSET logo and how I used the colours that are present in the branding that is in place by the brand. The new concept was to create a friendly appeal for the brand that used the website url (Iloveoffset.com) and the name "OFFSET" in a iconic way that would be understood instantly by the audience.

The logo features a heart symbol which comes from the word "Love" found in he URL, this can be used to also represent the love for art and design. The heart is then combined with a sans serif font that is placed unequally on the Y axis. This creates a play on design that is "OFFSET" but using a rounded font also expands on creating a friendly vibe for the brand.

The Brochure.

During the week off, I had started to develop concepts for the front and back cover for the brochure along with designing a grid system to be used through out.

The design of the front and back cover was to flow, so that upon turning it over the design would continue onward. the design is inspired by the diagonal angle found within the anchor points of the heart. I decided to then use colour to bring it to life, by sticking to the palette found in the current branding of Offset.

Feedback.

  • Logo works well and suits the brand, with being creative and well executed.

  • Colour helps to bring the logo to life, especially on the front cover.

  • Placement of the logo on the front cover, with cuts helps to enhance the playing on the word "OFFSET".

  • Develop spreads further, maybe incorporating the diagonal style into them.

Feedback evaluation.

In response to the feedback I have received, I will be expanding and trying new ways to lay out my spreads during the course of this project.
