Retinent.

Retinent specialise in the retention, engagement and employability of students at colleges and universities. Retinent features a team of ex senior management from the University and College sector and several of their tools help institutions understand students who are more likely to drop out of their course. The main tool is known as the "Mental Toughness Gauge" which is used throughout the corporate sector and has been quite successful in the Higher and Further education sector. They work with their clients to help review student support structures and implement the tools that they offer then further develop individual intervention plans for students at risk of dropping out.

Mental Toughness Gauge.

The Mental Toughness Gauge explains the mind set in regards to the way people think in day to day activities. The idea covers four main areas that being;

  • Perfomance

  • Positive Behaviour

  • Wellbeing

  • Aspirations

Performance

The measurement of consistent performance on work or attendance. Those who are less consistent are likely to drop out.

Positive Behaviour

Positive Behaviour is where you never put yourself in a situation or say the word's "Can not" and say "Can do" in every situation.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing is the state of one’s health and being comfortable in that environment. Often it can also include those who are more content and manage stress and projects better.

Aspirations

Those who are more ambitious and afraid to risk are less likely to drop out as they have set goals and are often motivated in reaching them.

Brief.

Retinent are looking to tidy the brand up, that would include Business cards, letter head both for print and electronic format, PowerPoint template and email footer template.

Planning.

9th January 2017

After I was briefed at 9am on Monday 9th January, I decided look into various meanings of the name and the origin of what it means. Using key words such as "Employabililty and Retention". I found out that the Latin translation for "Retain" is the word "Retinent".

From there I went on to look at what was wrong with the current logo and branding that the company has in place. I started with breaking down the icon part of the combination mark. The main issue I had with this logo was it did not fit the style of something that was aimed towards retaining students or working with college and universities. Instead it looked like a pharmacies logo. There was various other problems with the logo such as;

  • Had no sense of direction, almost as if the students were trapped.

  • The adding of two tones could have made the logo work better with having overlapping circles, almost like a ven-diagram.

Targets for 9th January 2017

  • By 1pm have around 20 concepts either digital or drawn out, with explanations to choices and get presented with feedback from peers.

  • By 2.30pm have one final design that is to be developed further and is refined.

16th January 2017

To present my ideas to the client it would be best to produce a set of logo guidelines stating what is the correct and wrong ways to use the logo, this should be developed in either InDesign or Illustrator at A3 size and printed to show my tutor.

17th January 2017

To present ideas to client for him to review and select one for development or use.
