Brief.
To develop a set of materials that will be used by Southpaw Dance Company to represent the brand both taking into consideration of the look and feel along with the future of the company. The designs should also be developed using the considerations set by the client.

Concept.
The concept behind the branding was to create a clean and effective look but strongly showing the purpose and values of Southpaw Dance Company. The idea was to use the outline of the logo as a keystone device that would make way as shape what could be used as a clipping mask layer for images.

On vertical pieces of branding the design will use the bottom point of the device to create a downwards flow of direction, an example of this is the website, where you navigate from top to bottom. On horizontal aspects of branding such as business cards and the PowerPoint presentation. The design will use the side areas of the hexagon.
On designs where it is equal width and height such as the social media icons and favicon, the keystone device will not be used and the image will fill the entire canvas. This is to create more consistency throughout the branding. If one was to be used it would either look out of place and not fit in with the banner for that respective platform.

Issues.
The biggest issue I had when working on the materials in the brief, was the logo and its guidelines. When the brief was delivered, and was handed over to us to work on over the past week, I struggled in using the logo mainly to the lack of guidelines and colours. At the moment, the colour scheme for Southpaw Dance Company is just black and white, however the lack of guidelines made decisions harder to make. In the end this resulted in me using the same colours used in the current branding in place on their social media and website.

The second issue was the website and Wordpress template, although I had no problem in creating the design or the PSD of the site. I had trouble making it into a usable Wordpress CMS (Content management system), this was down to my lack of knowledge on coding a website or anything for that matter. Once the site is approved and design is finalised it will be handed over too web design students to code.

Deadline.
Up until this brief and the Retinent brief was handed out, the projects worked on beforehand where over a longer period such as the Hoam Grown brief which was 6 weeks long. Even though a tighter deadline is more stressful, I found myself enjoying the brief much more as it kept me constantly busy, where as in longer projects you tend to do what you set out to achieve that week.

Conclusion.
In conclusion think that I handled and managed my time effectively while working on this brief and happy with the outcome of the work I produced, mainly because of the overall look and feel of the branding is consistent. I definitely would like to do more tighter deadlines in
the future.
