Brief.
Hoam Grown is a start-up Community Interest Company based in Grainger Market, Newcastle, that currently have no official branding, or assets. Hoam Grown are also in need of a wide selection of Tote bags & T-Shirts, the store will be aesthetically rustic but modern.

Creative Solution.
To develop ideas to create the first official logo design for the brand and to create a minimum of 25 initial design ideas for Tote bags and T shirt designs, with around four or five final designs.

Expanding the brief.

To expand on my development of the logo design, I will create a full corporate identity, including Staff uniforms, Website design and a wide range of aspects that will be used in everyday situations.

Meeting.

On Wednesday 1st March, Jane the founder of Hoam Grown had organised to attend the college to view the outcomes for the brief that was given out in the middle of October 2016. To prepare for this, I decided to professionally print the brand guidelines I had designed when expanding on the brief over the Christmas period. the reasoning for this was that in the future, I will be needing to present concepts to the client in a professional manner and having them being at the highest quality possible, allows the client to have a bigger indication of how the design actually looks. Having work printed also comes in handy for interviews in the near future when I apply for jobs in the industry.

Preparing for the meeting.

Prior to this meeting, I had set myself the task of developing and creating a set of high standard branding guidelines. This was set back in November (https://www.jacobham.co.uk/hoamgrownlogodesign) when I had finished the logo design but was unhappy with the standard of the style guide, I produced. Over the Christmas break, I decided to purchase books based on branding and guidelines to help get a greater understanding on the subject.

In reflection, I personally feel more comfortable designing brand guidelines than I did before. Ironically having a greater understanding of why guidelines are designed and how they should be used. Prior to this task, the guidelines I produced lacked depth and structure, having no direction in how the designs should be protected when in use by the brand or when used in any situation. This task will allow me to produce a higher standard in my work, which makes me happy as a designer.

Feedback.

No feedback was given at the meeting, due to Jane taking away the collection of design to review them at home.

Updated Feedback.
(From Jane, Founder of Hoam Grown, 16th March 2017)
“I have just gone through all of the design work that everyone worked so hard at creating. I have just purchased 50 organic cotton bags to be printed up with a mix of designs which I liked if I could pay you guys to print them? I am also about to order banners and stamps for events coming up and would like to use some of the designs for these too.

There was a few peoples work I am really excited about and feel they produced images and ideas that were so professional. I really like the work of Matthew Perry and Adam Sayers and a lot of the elements in green booklet labelled JH? I think.

I can pop in next week (Tuesday maybe?) to return the work and highlight the images for bags. I will be getting some black bags screen printed and would love to use one or two of them as the official store bag.

The professional quality of my favourites are just great. I don’t currently have a website which is rather annoying and would actually be willing to pay someone to design a site to these standards.

Just let me know when is best and I can pop back.”
